Course Management - Splitting Courses  


When a course is split into two or more courses, follow the procedures outlined in the following example:

LATN 135 is renumbered to LATN 135A and LATN 135B

  1. Click Search/Modify Course at the CRAMS main menu.
  2. Search for LATN 135 and select the appropriate (usually the most recent) version of the course.
  3. Click Save Work to make a working copy of the course.
  4. Modify the course as needed (see the "Modify a Course Guide", or "Dealing with Cross-Listed Courses Guide", for detailed instructions).
  5. To change the course from LATN 135 to LATN 135A, enter "A" in the Course Suffix field.
  6. Before submitting LATN 135A, enter "LATN 135" in the Renumbered From field and the
    information in the Closing Notes field:
    • LATN 135 also renumbered to LATN 135B
  7. Submit LATN 135A.
  8. Click Create a New Course and create LATN 135B (see "Create a Course Guide", for detailed instructions).
    TIMESAVING TIP If LATN 135B will be similar to LATN 135A, it may be easier to create LATN 135B using the Save as a New Course function (see "Modify a Course Guide", for detailed instructions).
  9. Before submitting LATN 135B, enter "LATN 135" in the Renumbered From field and the following information in the Closing Notes field:
    • LATN 135 also renumbered to LATN 135A

In the following example, LATN 135 is renumbered to LATN 135A.
The department searches for LATN 135 and updates the following fields as illustrated below:

  • Course Suffix
  • Renumbered From
  • Closing Notes
  • 1st Effective Quarter and Year

The department creates LATN 135B as a "new" course and completes the following fields as illustrated below:

  • Renumbered From
  • Closing Notes

After LATN 135A and LATN 135B are approved, the Registrar's Office updates the following field of LATN 135 as illustrated below:

  • Closing Notes
