Course Management - Merging Courses  


When two or more courses are merged into one course, follow the procedures outlined in the following example:

ECON 100A and ECON 100B are renumbered to ECON 100

  1. Click Search/Modify Course at the CRAMS main menu.
  2. Search for ECON 100A and select the appropriate (usually the most recent) version of the course.
  3. Click Save Work to make a working copy of the course.
  4. Modify the course as needed (see the "Modify a Course Guide", or "Dealing with Cross-Listed Courses Guide" for detailed instructions).
  5. To change the course from ECON 100A to ECON 100, remove "A" from the Course Suffix field.
  6. Before submitting ECON 100, enter the following information in the Renumbered From field:
    • ECON 100A, ECON 100B
  7. Submit ECON 100.
  8. DO NOT submit a Course Proposal for ECON 100B. Upon approval of ECON 100, the Registrar's Office will discontinue ECON 100B and enter the following information in its Closing Notes field.

ECON 100A and ECON 100B renumbered to ECON 100

The department searches for ECON 100A, clicks the Save button to create a working copy, and updates the following fields as illustrated below:

  • Course suffix (removes the A)
  • Renumbered From
  • Closing Notes
  • 1st Effective Quarter and Year

After ECON 100 is approved, the Registrar's Office updates the following field of ECON 100A as illustrated below:

  • Closing Notes

  • Closing Notes
    Last Effective Quarter and Year

The following example does not involve a merge but is included in these instructions because of its similarity to a merge:

CHN 020A is renumbered to CHN 020; CHN 020B is deleted

  1. Click Search/Modify Course at the CRAMS main menu.
  2. Search for CHN 020A and select the appropriate (usually the most recent) version of the course.
  3. Click Save Work to make a working copy of the course.
  4. Modify the course as needed (see "Modify a Course Guide", or "Dealing with Cross-Listed Courses Guide", for detailed instructions).
  5. To change the course from CHN 020A to CHN 020, remove "A" from the Course Suffix field.
  6. Before submitting CHN 020, enter CHN 020A in the Renumbered From field.
  7. Submit CHN 020.
  8. Click Search/Modify Course at the CRAMS main menu.
  9. Search for CHN 020B and select the appropriate (usually the most recent) version of the course.
  10. Delete CHN 020B (see "Delete a Course Guide", for detailed instructions).
  11. Submit CHN 020B.

The department searches for CHN020A, clicks the Save button to create a working copy, and updates the following fields as illustrated below:

  • Course Suffix (removes the A)
  • Renumbered From
  • 1st Effective Quarter and Year

The department searches for CHN 020B, clicks Tools and then Delete Course to create a working copy, and updates the following fields as illustrated below:

  • 1st effective Quarter and Year

After CHN 020 and the deletion of CHN 020B are approved, the Registrar's Office updates the following field of CHN 020A as illustrated below:

  • Closing Notes
